General Stone Restoration Questions

Do you offer stone restoration for exterior areas like patios or building facades?
We focus exclusively on interior stone restoration. Exterior cleaning services such as patios and facades are not currently offered.
How long does the stone restoration process usually take, and will it cause disruption?
The timescale depends on the size and scope of the job. Smaller surfaces like worktops can often be completed in a day, while full floors may take up to 3 days. We work in stages and protect surrounding areas to minimise disruption.
Do you provide onsite consultations and quotations?
Yes. Initially, we ask clients to complete our online enquiry form to provide project details. We then give an estimated cost and process overview. If suitable, we arrange a site visit to assess the stone and confirm a tailored quote.
What issues can be resolved with stone restoration?
We can address surface-level scratches, etching, staining, dullness, lippage (uneven tiles), and other signs of wear through our specialist cleaning, honing, grinding, and sealing techniques.
What are the white dots or marks on my marble?
These are often “stun marks,” caused by impact from sharp objects like high heels. They are a form of crystal damage within the marble. While not always fully removable, we’ll advise what’s achievable after assessing the stone.
Will the restoration or polishing process create dust or mess?
No. Our water-fed equipment controls dust and contains any residue. We vacuum excess slurry as we work and use splash guards to keep surrounding areas clean and protected.

Cleaning and Care Advice

How do you clean natural stone without damaging it?
We use pH-appropriate cleaners, professional diamond abrasives, and machines specifically designed for stone. We never use acids or abrasive chemicals that could cause harm.
What type of mop or cleaning system is best for stone floors?
We recommend a flat mop system with a built-in spray for small spaces, or a Vileda professional speed mop for larger areas. Avoid over-wetting and always follow correct dilution rates to prevent residue buildup.
Can I use a steam mop on my stone floor?
No. Steam can cause issues such as surface flaking (spalling) and sealer breakdown. It’s best to use a gentle, pH-neutral cleaning method to maintain the stone’s integrity.

Finishes and Sealing

Should I choose a polished or matt finish for my stone floor?
Both have pros and cons. A honed or matte finish provides a natural appearance and hides scratches better but requires more frequent sealing. Polished finishes offer shine but may show marks more easily.
Will my stone look like new again?
In many cases, yes. We can remove stains, scratches, and etching to return the stone to a near-original condition. For any irreversible damage, we’ll always provide honest expectations in advance.
Can all marks and scratches be removed?
Most surface-level issues can be resolved through honing and polishing. Deep stains or chips may require additional repair methods, and we’ll advise you on the best course of action.
What kind of sealer do you use, and how long does it last?
We use premium impregnating sealers that penetrate the stone without altering the surface texture. These are food-safe and typically last between 1 and 5 years, depending on use and stone type.
Will sealing change the look of the stone?
Some sealers slightly deepen colour, but we’ll always discuss your preferences beforehand. The final finish depends on the level of polishing or honing chosen.

Practical Guidance & Planning

Do I need to clear the space before work starts?
Yes. Please remove small furniture and items from the work area. For larger pieces, we’re happy to discuss how best to manage them.
Will the floors be slippery after polishing?
A polished finish can be more slippery when wet, much like any smooth surface. A honed finish typically provides more grip.
Can I walk on the floor straight after the work is done?
Allow 2 to 4 hours for light foot traffic, and 24 hours before replacing rugs or furniture. This helps the sealer cure fully and prevents marks.
Is it safe for pets and children?
Yes. Once dry, all products we use are safe. We ensure the work area remains secure throughout the process.
Do I need to be home during the work?
Not necessarily. Some clients prefer to be present, while others choose to be away during larger jobs. We’re flexible and can work around your schedule.
How soon can work be scheduled?

Availability depends on current bookings, especially for larger projects. We recommend getting in touch early to secure your preferred dates. Contact us today.

Aftercare and Maintenance

How long will the results last?
With proper care, many years. We provide an easy-to-follow aftercare guide with product recommendations and maintenance tips.
Can I use standard supermarket floor cleaners?
We advise against acidic or bleach-based products. These can damage the stone or break down the sealer. Always use a mild, pH-neutral stone cleaner.
Do you provide aftercare advice?
Yes. All our clients receive practical, jargon-free aftercare guidance to help maintain their stone’s finish and extend its lifespan.

Costs, Guarantees and Payments

How much does stone restoration cost?
Prices depend on the stone type, area size, level of wear, and whether specialist services like lippage removal are needed. We always provide a clear, fixed quote with no hidden charges.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, and business invoices if required.
Are you insured to provide stone floor cleaning services?
Yes. We hold full public liability and treatment risk insurance, and our technicians are trained to the highest professional standards.
Do you offer a guarantee?

We stand by our work. If there’s an issue, we’ll return to inspect and address any concerns to ensure you’re completely satisfied. Contact us for further details.
