A New Option for Difficult Concrete Floors
Not every concrete floor is a good candidate for direct polishing. Sometimes the slab is damaged, heavily patched, contaminated or simply too inconsistent to achieve the finish the customer wants. Until now, that could limit the polished concrete options we were able to offer.
StoneCura has completed specialist TRU training with Smart Floor UK and is a certified installer of CTS Rapid Set TRU overlay systems, adding a further option alongside the concrete polishing, grinding and floor repair work we’ve built our reputation on.
What Is a TRU Overlay?
A TRU overlay is a specialist cementitious topping, bonded onto an existing concrete slab and then ground, honed and polished the same way a direct polish would be. Unlike a resin or epoxy coating, it becomes the new polishable surface itself rather than sitting as a decorative layer, so the finished result still has the natural variation and character you’d expect from real polished concrete.
The difference is control. Where direct polishing depends on what’s already in the existing slab, colour, aggregate, old damage, an overlay gives us a new surface to work with, which means far greater control over the final look.
Why We Chose to Get Certified
We’ve always believed in being upfront about what’s achievable on any given floor, rather than promising a result the existing concrete can’t deliver. Being a certified TRU installer means we now have a genuine second option for the floors that don’t suit direct polishing, rather than turning those customers away.
The training covered the full process properly, substrate preparation, priming, mixing and placing the overlay, and the grinding, densifying, sealing and polishing stages that follow. It’s a specialist system, and it needs to be treated as one.
Is a TRU Overlay Right for Your Floor?
If your existing concrete has damage, old coatings, or inconsistent aggregate that would make a direct polish disappointing, an overlay is worth considering. If your slab is already in good condition, direct polishing usually remains the simpler, more cost-effective route, and we’ll always tell you honestly which applies to yours.
